In 2017, reporters visited Pangang Group and paid particular attention to the disposal of its industrial waste (such as slag). Committed to green and sustainable development, Pangang Vanadium & Titanium Co., Ltd. has carried out research on the technology of concentrating and recycling waste acid in the production process of sulfuric acid-based titanium dioxide. Currently, the concentration of concentrated acid from waste acid in Chongqing Titanium Industry has reached about 52%, and the recycling rate exceeds 90%, significantly reducing the generation of titanium gypsum.
In response to the world-class problem of the comprehensive utilization of high-titanium blast furnace slag, relying on the support of projects such as the National Science and Technology Support Program, the National Key Research and Development Program, and the provincial science and technology achievement transformation, Pangang Vanadium & Titanium Co., Ltd. has invented the method of producing TiCl4 from high-titanium blast furnace slag through "high-temperature carbonization - low-temperature chlorination", pioneering the industrial application of titanium extraction from blast furnace slag. Pangang Vanadium & Titanium Co., Ltd. has built a production line with an annual processing capacity of 100,000 tons of high-titanium blast furnace slag to produce 37,000 tons of TiCl4, which seamlessly connects with the existing chlorination process of titanium dioxide, turning high-titanium blast furnace slag into valuable resources and effectively alleviating China's dependence on foreign high-quality raw materials in the high-end titanium industry. After the full utilization of high-titanium blast furnace slag, the comprehensive utilization rate of titanium resources will increase from 29% to 55%, ensuring the secure supply of China's titanium resources and achieving a dual improvement in ecological and economic benefits.
Moreover, ferrous sulfate produced during the production of sulfuric acid-based titanium dioxide, which was once waste, is now one of the important raw materials for lithium batteries, realizing the recycling of resources.
